Dear readers,
Today, I want to address a chapter in Scotland's recent history that has been marred by controversy and frustration: the ferry fiasco. This saga, centered around the mismanagement and delays in the procurement and construction of two new ferries for CalMac Ferries Ltd., has been a source of disappointment and concern for all involved.
The story of this fiasco is a complex one, marked by setbacks, disputes, and political wrangling. From the initial awarding of the project to Ferguson Marine shipyard in Port Glasgow to the subsequent takeover of the shipyard by the Scottish Government, the journey has been fraught with challenges and obstacles at every turn.

Despite efforts to address the issues and salvage the project, it has become clear that the original vision for these ferries is no longer viable. The delays and cost overruns have taken their toll, both financially and logistically, and it is time to consider alternative solutions.
That's why I am announcing today a bold and innovative plan to transform this fiasco into a positive legacy for Scotland: the scuttling of both ferries to create a natural marine reef. This decision, while unconventional, offers a unique opportunity to mitigate the environmental impact of the project and create a lasting benefit for our marine ecosystems.
Scuttling the ferries to create a marine reef will provide habitat for marine life, promote biodiversity, and enhance recreational opportunities for divers and snorkelers. It will also serve as a tangible reminder of our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible resource management.
While I recognize that this decision may not please everyone, I believe it is the right choice for Scotland's future. By turning the page on this chapter of mismanagement and controversy and embracing a new vision for our marine environment, we can pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.
I look forward to working with all stakeholders to make this vision a reality and to ensure that some good comes out of this fiasco.
Until next time,
Maggie McGown
